Alex Kipman was born in Brazil but received his education at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He earned a degree in software engineering in 2001. He cited his childhood as the beginning of his fascination with technological possibilities. His parents bought him three Atari 2600s as a child, the first two of which he broke while attempting to figure out how the enthralling gaming hardware worked. He knew right then and there that this was what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Kinect, which was released in 2010, was one of his first breakthrough creations. It quickly became one of the world's best-selling consumer electronics devices, altering how people interact with their electronic devices, particularly video games. This dedication earned him a position as a technical fellow. After his work on this project, he was inducted into the Microsoft Hall of Legends in 2011, receiving a tremendous amount of recognition for directly influencing or creating a visionary initiative through technical leadership.
